WILLIAMSTOWN -- A property on Bee Hill Road sold for $2.2 million on Oct. 23, making it one of the highest residential property sales in the town’s history.
"It even may be the second highest," Assessor William J. Barkin said Tuesday.
He said the highest residential property sale took place in 2004, when the Cole Porter estate at 1425 West Main St. was purchased for $2.3 million.
The property at 555 Bee Hill Road was purchased from the Baker family by Macalester Limited, a British Virgin Islands company with a mailing address in Washington, D.C.
Gintare Everett, an agent with Alton and Westall Real Estate Agency who brokered the sale, said Tuesday that the man who bought the property is part of the company and does not want his name disclosed.
"The way he found the house was, he would rent it for part of the summer for three years, and on the third summer, he decided to make an offer to purchase it," Everett said.
